CURRENT END OF UNIT ASSESSMENT
For this exercise I selected the Handwriting Class with Kindergarten, the Unit we are currently working on is Lowercase Letters, the unit is focused on:
- Letter formation
- Sizing
- Alignment
- Letter recognition
The current End of the Unit Assessment I am using is:
1. Students receive a worksheet that have the spaces for the 26 letters of the alphabet, they are asked to write their name and last name, then write the lowercase letters on the alphabetical order, and finally to write a short sentence created by them about a topic for example what are they going to do on holidays.
2. I review the handwriting portfolios that they have worked in other classes.
3. I ask for the homeroom teacher and the Spanish teacher´s feedback about the student´s performance in the writing tasks, and how they have seen progress or not in the student.
4. I review the exercises done during the classes.
JOURNAL REFLECTION

Effective Teaching Reflection: In our group discussion on effective teaching, we explored how activities or events that evoke strong emotions in children can have a profound impact on their learning. We shared an experience where our city was engulfed in wildfires that were very close to our school. This was a serious situation for the city and it took a long time to resolve. As a result, the school had to switch to virtual learning for a few days. The children were understandably scared and anxious, especially those who lived near the affected areas. However, as tragic as the situation was, it provided a unique opportunity for the children to integrate their previous knowledge with new concepts and make connections with the real world.
This experience also made us realize how important it is to be mindful of our actions and body language as teachers. A simple smile or gesture can have a positive or negative impact on students, and it is not always easy to identify every reaction from every student. Therefore, it is crucial to create a safe and supportive learning environment that minimizes situations that can discourage children from learning.
Moreover, as teachers, it is our responsibility to help our students change the way they think, feel, and act through learning. We need to ensure that the goals we set for our students are meaningful and relevant to their lives, rather than something that will be forgotten in a few months. By recognizing their potential and addressing their individual needs, we can create a learning experience that truly impacts their lives and prepares them for the future.
