  CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORKS IN THE SCHOOL In K4 the frameworks that are being used for planning the units of study are: I nquiry based : It is used to start the unit, that way children get engaged and motivated towards the topic, it also gives the teacher an idea of how to carry the unit maintaining the students engaged to get the best learning outcome.  B iliteracy : Used to immerse the children in a second language, encouraging them to use it and to learn more.  B alanced Literacy : This framework allows the teacher to create good bases for reading and writing.   Learning goals for a Grade 1 Unit:  Exploring Animal Habitats Enduring Understanding:  There is no EU stated the big idea is just a topic without a clear purpose In the lasts weeks there are some goals that start to appear to be the enduring understanding, this shows that the whole unit was not planned according to the main goal and so the lessons will not take the students to it.  It would not allow the teacher to share with the students what the learning goal would be Enduring Understanding : Identifying and understanding various animal habitats, and learning why it is crucial to protect them. LEARNING ASSESSMENT

  CURRENT END OF UNIT ASSESSMENT For this exercise I selected the Handwriting Class with Kindergarten, the Unit we are currently working on is Lowercase Letters, the unit is focused on: Letter formation Sizing Alignment  Letter recognition  The current End of the Unit Assessment I am using is: 1. Students receive a worksheet that have the spaces for the 26 letters of the alphabet, they are asked to write their name and last name, then write the lowercase letters on the alphabetical order, and finally to write a short sentence created by them about a topic for example what are they going to do on holidays.  2. I review the handwriting portfolios that they have worked in other classes. 3. I ask for the homeroom teacher and the Spanish teacher´s feedback about the student´s performance in the writing tasks, and how they have seen progress or not in the student. 4. UNIT AND LESSON PLAN ANALYSIS

  CURRENT UNIT/LESSON PLANNING  When comparing my planner with the UDL format I find lots of differences that make me reflect about the chances that I might be missing as a teacher to create a lesson that is really effective to all students. With the current format I am only focusing on the activity and the main goal of it but I am not anticipating possible needs of students. The only similarity that I find is that in my current format I leave the space for observations, where I usually write what I found positive or negative and that I would change for the next time. It gives me the possibility to self reflect on how the activity went and what modifications I can do for it to work better in the groups I am going to applied it. However it is to vague and the UDL format will structure this reflexion even more.  Another difference is that I don´t discriminate my actions vs the students actions this would give a good inside of how would I and the activity guide the students ...

FAIRNESS

  WHAT IS FAIRNESS? Making sure that everyone has the same chance to succeed by getting what they need to do so, by eliminating barriers that some might have, by treating each one equally.  BREAKOUT ROOM Problem 1: Assessments and rubrics are the same for all the students except for the students in the inclusion program, however there are students with different learning profiles who participate in the co-teaching program or not and they are still being evaluated as their peers, which falls in the equal definition applied to the process assuming that they all would be able to respond to the methodology and show their growth.  To address this I would choose equity applied to the process by being able to plan before the test even if it is a program that is already structured how can I modify it for the students that might need a visual prompt additional to the auditory or vice versa, that might need to have the test break it into smaller parts, translation of the instructio...

 CASE ANALYSIS CASE 1 Ms. Friendly  5th grade teacher Eastville Elementary School Teaching for 18 years I worked with Andrea M. in studying this case we were able to identify positive characteristics from Ms Friendly but also patterns that might prevent her from being an effective teacher. CREATING A LEARNING SCHOOL 1. M ISSION AND VISION To what extent does your school’s mission and vision statement meet the characteristics of well constructed mission and vision? MISSION: The school mission seems to be accurate and to meet the characteristics to be well constructed in it you can clearly identify what we do (serving and preparing students), for whom (diverse students), how (with an accredited USA/Colombia college preparatory program) and to achieve (their fullest potential for excellence).  VISION:  The school vision clearly states what it was to achieve and it is quite ambitious and thinks in the future, however in our group discussion we also talked about how it seems to be too general and abstract.  2.
