DEFINING LEARNING

My definition of Learning

Is a process of acquiring new concepts and being able to use them in different contexts making connections with past experience or knowledge.

Group definition of Learning

Is the human faculty of understanding the world around. It involves acquiring, transforming and redefining concepts, skills and values. It implies being able to use them in different contexts and interrelate them.

Definition by Ambrose et al. (2010) adapt Mayer (2002)

A process that leads to change, which occurs as a result of experience and increases the potential for improved performance and future learning

JOURNAL REFLECTION

As I reflect on my process of learning, I realize that it has been a journey filled with various experiences, most of which have been positive. I can still vividly remember my preschool teacher and the games she used to play with us. She always made sure to connect with each of us before starting the class. However, I have also had teachers who made me feel intimidated, and these subjects have been the most challenging ones for me to learn.

After studying Occupational Therapy, I have come to understand that learning through motivation and engagement is crucial. I have always tried to implement this approach with my students. When we were asked to define learning, I initially thought of it as a cognitive process that provides social benefits.
However, when the definition of a process that leads to change was given, I felt like my definition was completed. Learning is undoubtedly what helps us adapt to the environment's demands, not just in terms of acquiring knowledge, but also in terms of how we survive in different contexts.
Every student's learning experience is unique, and educators must adapt their teaching methods to their students' individual needs. Each student has different skills, motivations, and social contexts that can either positively or negatively influence their learning process.

In any case, learning is a valuable gift that we must cherish and promote in every child worldwide, regardless of their conditions or circumstances. It is a fundamental right that makes us human and powerful and equips us with the tools to think and act in a way that we believe is right.

DAILY ACTION: I am going to be more aware of what is that special characteristic that make each of my students unique, and how I can enrich that uniqueness in my classes.
This is my second year in a school as I used to be a teacher in a prek, so the experience was totally different as it was way smaller.

Being a teacher of 12 different classes makes it a little more challenging to identify each child however I do know each of them and their own process is not the same as the home room teacher. This is why I pick this as my daily action.

KEYS TO A FOCUS ON LEARNING

CREATING A LEARNING SCHOOL 1. M ISSION AND VISION To what extent does your school’s mission and vision statement meet the characteristics of well constructed mission and vision? MISSION: The school mission seems to be accurate and to meet the characteristics to be well constructed in it you can clearly identify what we do (serving and preparing students), for whom (diverse students), how (with an accredited USA/Colombia college preparatory program) and to achieve (their fullest potential for excellence).  VISION:  The school vision clearly states what it was to achieve and it is quite ambitious and thinks in the future, however in our group discussion we also talked about how it seems to be too general and abstract.  2. POLL OF CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EFFECTIVE LEARNING SCHOOL Question 2 Question 1 1. I work in Primary school mainly with pre and kindergarten so an active partnership about learning happen differently and is just a brief introduction to accomplish this ...

EVALUATION OF UNIT PLAN AND LEARNING GOALS

Learning goals for a Grade 1 Unit:  Exploring Animal Habitats Enduring Understanding:  There is no EU stated the big idea is just a topic without a clear purpose In the lasts weeks there are some goals that start to appear to be the enduring understanding, this shows that the whole unit was not planned according to the main goal and so the lessons will not take the students to it.  It would not allow the teacher to share with the students what the learning goal would be Enduring Understanding : Identifying and understanding various animal habitats, and learning why it is crucial to protect them. End of the unit assessment: The following activities are the strategies the teacher is going to use for the assessment Comparison of different animal habitats Building an animal habitat Share knowledge of an specific animal and its habitat  Participate in a discussion about the importance of protecting animal habitats Integrating some of the ideas that the teacher pla...

LEARNING ASSESSMENT

CURRENT END OF UNIT ASSESSMENT For this exercise I selected the Handwriting Class with Kindergarten, the Unit we are currently working on is Lowercase Letters, the unit is focused on: Letter formation Sizing Alignment  Letter recognition  The current End of the Unit Assessment I am using is: 1. Students receive a worksheet that have the spaces for the 26 letters of the alphabet, they are asked to write their name and last name, then write the lowercase letters on the alphabetical order, and finally to write a short sentence created by them about a topic for example what are they going to do on holidays.  2. I review the handwriting portfolios that they have worked in other classes. 3. I ask for the homeroom teacher and the Spanish teacher´s feedback about the student´s performance in the writing tasks, and how they have seen progress or not in the student. 4. I review the exercises done during the classes. JOURNAL REFLECTION Effective Teaching Reflection: In our gr...
